Best salad ever.
I’m taking ya’ll back to my hometown for this one. Though I’m a city girl now, I have to nod to my “country” roots*. I’ve gotten used to the life of city luxury where I can find any cuisine meets my fancy, but it wasn’t always that easy. Growing up in a small town meant small eating, maybe that’s why I have such an unreasonable appetite now. Clean Plate Kitchen was our town’s first taste of gourmet living; the very first vegan and gluten friendly restaurant the small town of Clinton had seen. Based on the “feel good food” trend, The Clean Plate Kitchen focuses on locally grown, organic ingredients to come up with their fresh plates. They offer an extensive lunch and dinner menu that changes seasonally. My favorite season is summer, because that’s when the Summer Lovin’ Salad comes back (pictured above). Mixed greens, onions, goat cheese, strawberries, and grilled chicken all dressed in balsamic vinaigrette made locally. For such good eatin’, it sure does feel wrong in all the right ways. And to sweeten the pot even more, they serve up freshly popped popcorn, with a changing flavor with every meal. My favorite is the garlic-lime. The Clean Plate Kitchen has quickly become “the” meeting spot over the years in our small town, and I don’t see that changing any time soon. Check out their menus and hours of operation here.
*Note about the author: Gourmet Girll grew up in rural central New Jersey. Yes, central New Jersey DOES exist. I grew up surrounded by goats, chickens, dogs, cats, sheep, lambs…and bears, oh my! (but really).
